Perth Mint Australian Gold Lunar Series

The Perth Mint is located in Western Australia. It first introduced the Gold Lunar series in 1996, the year of the Rat or Mouse. That series concluded in 2007, the year of the Pig, and the Mint began work on its second installment of the series. The Lunar series is based on the 12-year Chinese Lunar Calendar, which dates back before 2600 BC. The design on the reverse features a new animal every year.

The Australian Gold Goat is the 8th release of the Perth Mint’s latest addition to their second Gold Lunar series. The second series also includes the 2014 Australian Gold Horse. The Gold Lunar series is minted in various denominations: 1/20 oz., 1/10 oz., 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz., 1 oz., 2 oz., and 10 oz.

The 2016 Australian Gold Goat features the image of an adult goat on its reverse (back) side. The adult goat is halted along a rocky trail with a rugged mountain range in the background. The bottom portion of the reverse is stamped with the words "The Year of the Goat." This beautiful Perth Mint design boasts the same intricacies and attention to detail that is found in just about all Perth Mint metal products.

In keeping with the Lunar Series designs, the obverse side of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, design by Ian Rank-Broadley. The top edge of the coin is stamped with the words "ELIZABETH II" and "AUSTRALIA." The bottom edge of the coin features the coin’s weight and purity, as well as the year of mintage and face value. These details vary according to the denomination of the 2016 Australian Gold Goat coin.
