Introduced in 1986 with BU coins in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold, these four options have been available to investors each year for the past 40 years. Gold Eagles from the US Mint have been offered in 1/4 oz gold in three different versions throughout the course of the program’s history. The longest-running option is the 1/4 oz BU Gold Eagle, followed by the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagle. The shortest-lived option in this weight is the 1/4 oz Burnished Gold Eagle, which was available only from 2006 to 2008.

The obverse field of the 2025 American Gold Eagle comes with an image of Lady Liberty. Taken from the 1907 $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, this visual was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and used on the Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933. It features Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.

On the reverse side of 2025 1/4 oz Gold Eagle Coins, you will find a modern vision of the bald eagle from Jennie Norris. Created in 2020, this new design debuted in July 2021 and marked the first change in the Gold Eagle’s design in the program’s history. It features a left-profile image of the head of the bald eagle.
