In the obverse design of 2025 1/2 oz Gold Eagle Coins, the US Mint features an iconic design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Created in 1907, this image is a front-facing relief that captures the full-length figure of Liberty walking forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The field includes a ring of stars, sunrays behind Liberty, and the U.S. Capitol.

For the reverse side of 2025 American Gold Eagles, a modern image of the American bald eagle graces the coin. Introduced in July 2021, this image shows the head of the American bald eagle in left-profile relief. This intricate visual was created in 2020 by Jennie Norris and marks the first design change for the Gold Eagle in its history.

American Gold Eagles are available each year in the BU and Proof range with four weights in total. The 1 oz gold coin is the longest-running option in both series, with the 1/2 oz gold coin representing the largest fractional-ounce coin in the series. The 1/2 oz Gold Eagle debuted in 1986 in the BU Series and in 1987 in the Proof Series.
