British Britannia coins were designed in 1987 by Philip Nathan. The effigy of Britannia that features on the reverse was created by Nathan and chosen by The Royal Mint following an artistic competition to select a Britannia design. From 1987 to 2023, Queen Elizabeth II featured on the coins. Following her death in late 2022, King Charles III debuted on the coins in mid-2023.

On the obverse of 2025 British Gold Britannia is a portrait of King Charles III. His Majesty’s effigy on British coins was among the first to appear on Commonwealth coinage following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Martin Jennings created this left-profile relief that depicts Charles III without a crown.

The reverse side of the 2025 1/10 oz Gold Britannia Coin comes with a depiction of Britannia. Nathan’s image of Britannia captures her full-length figure in front-facing relief. Her figure wears a Corinthian helmet with a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left as it rests on the Union Jack shield. The field includes a latent security device, micro-text engraving around Britannia, tincture lines on the Union Jack, and textured wave motion lines in the background.
