The sugar maple leaf has been a prominent symbol of Canada for centuries. Indigenous peoples in Canada have long revered the sugar maple tree (Acer saccharum) for its sweet sap, which they would boil down into maple syrup and sugar. The distinctive five-pointed leaf of the sugar maple became an important motif in the art, jewelry, and regalia of many First Nations.

On the obverse of 2025 Canadian Silver Maple Leafs, the Royal Canadian Mint offers its new depiction of King Charles III. This effigy of Charles III debuted in 2024 on Royal Canadian Mint coinage and was created by Steven Rosati. In this design, His Majesty is shown in left-profile relief and is depicted without a crown on his head.
The reverse side of the 2025 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf Coin features an iconic sugar maple leaf. This design has been featured on the reverse of all Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins since it was designed in 1979. Walter Ott created this visual and it features on all silver, gold, platinum, and palladium versions of the coin.
