Gold Coins: Opportunity to Buy 2011 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coins

The 2011 American Buffalo Gold Proof coin was issued on May 19, 2011 amidst mounting demand from buyers nationwide. Priced at $1,760.00, the 24-karat American Buffalo gold coin witnessed sales of 5,782 by Sunday, paying the US Mint $10,176,320. However, according to the US Mint’s latest sales figures, the amount is much less than the figures in the previous years when the rates were cheaper. This shows that sales strength was higher in the years when the coins were released at cheaper prices.

However, as of May 25, 2011, the US Mint is further expected to increase its numismatic gold coin prices, including the 2011 American Buffalo Gold Proof coins, to reach $1,810 per piece. The gold coin prices remain the same as of May 31, 2011. This price rise has been associated with the increase in London Fix weekly gold average to more than $1500 an ounce. Gold coins that will be affected by the price rise include 2011 American Buffalo Gold coins, 2011 Proof Gold Eagle Coins, First Spouse Gold Coins and 2011 Uncirculated Gold Eagle Coin.

2011 American Buffalo Gold Coins: Design, Presentation and Purchase

The American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin was first issued in 2006 under the $1 Presidential Coin Act of 2005. Designed by engraver James Earle Fraser, the coin’s design on the obverse and the reverse is based on the original 1913 Buffalo nickel Type 1 coin design. The coin’s obverse features a profile of a Native American, with the inscriptions “LIBERTY, 2011” the initial “F” for Fraser and “W” the mint mark for the Mint at West Point. The coin’s reverse features an American buffalo, also called the bison; it also has the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, $50, 1OZ. and .9999 FINE GOLD.

This one ounce American Buffalo Gold Proof coin is the US Mint’s first ever 24-karat gold proof coin to be minted. This is the collector’s version of the American Buffalo bullion gold coin. This one ounce, .9999 fine purity gold coin is also one of the world’s purest gold coins. The coin comes elegantly presented in a hardwood box (with matte finish) and faux leather inset. The coin is also displayed on a platform that is raised at an angle to enable the clear display of the coin when the box is open. The coin also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Besides the American Buffalo Proof gold coins, the US Mint also produces American Buffalo bullion gold coins. These feature the same design as the Proof coin and have .9999 fineness. Released on March 14, 2011, the 2011 bullion version registered total sales of 72,000 as of Tuesday. To purchase these bullion coins, investors can contact the US Mint’s authorized purchasers, rather than the Mint itself.

To place orders for the purchase of 2011 American Buffalo Gold Proof coin, customers can call the US Mint’s toll free number at 1-800- USA-MINT (872-6468). Customers with hearing and speech-impairment, but with TTY equipment, can place their orders by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468). To ensure that everyone has equal and fair access to the US Mint products, the Mint neither accepts nor honors any order that is placed before the official issue date and time of its products. However, following the issue, there is no limit on the quantity or mintage that one can purchase.
