The Best Way To Invest In Gold – Part One

Blog Feb 11, 2014

If you have been reading my blog-articles for a little while now, then you know that ITM Trading believes that the best way to invest in gold depends on the specific financial needs and goals of the particular investor. ITM Trading also believes that gold in general and rare gold coins in specific are long-term holds. Craig Griffin, the Founder and President of ITM Trading is nearly-famous for his quote “While it would be foolish to acquire gold for the short-term, it would also be unwise not to own some gold for the long-term!” These are sage words. Simply put, gold bullion can be too easily manipulated in today’s market to try to speculate on substantial upward moves that produce short-term gains. A rare gold coin, on the other hand, has a strong history of producing gains over the long term, and this, combined with the privacy and status as a collectible as seen by the IRS, gives the rare gold coin distinct advantages over gold bullion when held for the long-term. For some, a rare gold coin is the best way to invest in gold.

A Great First Coin For The Investor New To Rare Gold Coins
Once you have decided on which rare coin dealer you will do business with, and for more on that you can click here, now comes the fun part of how to invest in rare gold coins; picking and choosing which one or ones you will add to your investment portfolio. Personally, I liked to place a particular coin in the hands of my new clients who were looking for the best way to invest in gold and I will share that coin and it’s variants with you, and the reasons I found it to be a great place to start when beginning to buy rare gold coin.

The 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle
Augustus Saint-Gaudens was a sculptor that was hand picked by President Teddy Roosevelt to re-design the gold coins of the United States. As it turns out, President Roosevelt was a numismatist (a studier of coins) of his own right, and took quite an interest in the coinage of the United States, and he found the current coinage being produced to be unfit, so he called upon his talented friend Augustus to do something about it. The design that Augustus created for the one ounce Double Eagle has been hailed as the most beautiful design to grace American coins, and this is one reason I suggest the coin in particular. Another reason is that 1907 was the first year this design was struck. Yet another reason is that there are two variations of the 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, one bears the motto “In God We Trust”, while the other version lacks this motto. President Roosevelt felt that putting this motto on the coin was blasphemous, but the people of the United States felt completely opposite about the lack of the “In God We Trust Motto” and soon there was legislation afoot to make sure that all U.S. coins would always include this inscription, and to this day, they do. Both coins are usually priced the same, so, after sharing this bit of history, I would ask the buyer which coin they would prefer. These are some of the historic reasons I like to place this particular rare gold coin in the hands of my clients, and in part two of this article I will share the financial reasons that owning a 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Motto or No Motto is a fine way to begin owning rare gold coins and can also be the best way to invest in gold.
