Just about a year ago today, the Perth Mint unveiled it’s 2013 “Year of the Snake†silver bullion coin. The snake is the sixth animal which makes up the 12 year Chinese Zodiac calendar.
These very attractive coins will all be struck in silver that is 3 nines or .999 fineness, and the coins will be available in sizes varying from ½ oz to 10 Kilos. All coins will share the “P†mintmark, designating the coins origin from the  Perth Mint. The popular 1 ounce size will be limited to a production of only 300,000, and only 200 copies of the massive 10Kilo coin will be struck.
The likeness of a snake hanging from a branch is artfully depicted on the back of the coin, along with the Chinese symbol for the creature. These coins will be popular ways to invest in silver, and will offer instant liquidity at any silver broker.
The obverse, or front of the coin as it is known, will no doubt seem quite familiar as it is the profile of Queen Elizabeth II which artist Ian Rank-Broadley created, and has been used in concurrence of the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
The two ounce coin offers a unique size not common in most collections, and has a nice heft in the hand. They have a diameter of 55.60 mm and a thickness of 2.6mm, and are marked with a denomination of $2 (AUD).
